Wallpaper has been around for a long, long time—it dates back to the 16th century. It was used to decorate the walls of homes many years ago and now it’s come back in full force. There are SO many different wallpaper options now that you can easily find something that fits your style.

When I used to think of wallpaper, I would think outdated and not really something I would consider for my home. I remember having a wallpaper border in my room growing up and going to the store to pick it out in the big wallpaper books.

It’s also become a lot easier to install from the peel and stick kind to the paste kind. I have installed wallpaper a few times and each time it seems to become a little easier. Practice makes perfect, right?!

Wallpaper can be installed professionally or by yourself! It can take some learning time, but it’s worth it. See my tips for wallpaper installation in tricky places, HERE.

HOW TO TRY THE TREND OF WALLPAPER

Wallpaper can make a bold statement in a space and give a room big personality. You can use wallpaper as just an accent wall or use it on the whole room. It works great in really any space you have.

I love using wallpaper as an accent. I think it’s a fun way to add interest and texture to a space. I’ve used it in our current home and our past home.

We have wallpaper on a small, quirky little space around our bathroom in our family room. This was just kind of an awkward nook that now has some interest from the addition of the wallpaper.

In our last home, I used wallpaper as an accent in Dominic’s nursery. It set the tone of the woodland themed nursery we did for him. See his nursery, HERE.

You can find wallpaper in tons of places! They vary in price, color, design, texture, installation process, etc.

You don’t need many tools for installing wallpaper yourself which makes it somewhat of an easy beginning DIY project to tackle. All you need is the wallpaper, a really sharp exacto knife, wallpaper glue (if it calls for that), angled brush (if it calls for glue), roller (if it calls for glue), sponge, plastic trowel, scissors, a ruler, a level, and a pencil.

If you are unsure where to begin, start in a small space. Somewhere that you want to add a little visual interest to. Maybe an entryway or an accent wall. Ease into the trend and go from there. Wallpaper is great for pulling a space together. You can draw different colors from the wallpaper to use throughout the rest of the room’s decor.

I think the biggest tip I can give is to just go for it! Wallpaper is so fun and brings a room to life. With so many options, you will definitely find one you love! Be patient while installing it yourself as there is definitely a learning curve.
