I think mixing metals is such a cool idea. I love that the mix of metals creates such great visual interest in a space. It also allows for you to play around with a few things that you love, if you can’t decide on one.

My favorite metal combo has been black with gold or brass. I love the mix of the modern, sleek black with the vintage inspired gold or brass.

Another great combination is chrome with black. Such a great modern and timeless look. The gold and chrome combo makes for a great classic look. I love the shiny chrome with the more matte black or gold—a cool contrast.

Personally, I prefer only mixing 2 color combinations, but you could really do a wide range. I like to stay in the same color range when mixing metals so that it all looks cohesive.

When mixing metals, it doesn’t have to just be the hardware in a space, but the light fixtures, mirrors, shelving, furniture, or decor.

There are so many different metals too. There’s polished chrome, brushed nickel, black, brass, lacquered brass, oil rubbed bronze, polished nickel, etc. Some places will call them different names as well. Here is a good reference for a metal color guide.

TRY THE TREND WITH MIXING METALS

I have done this trend in a few places in our home. I mixed metals in our bathroom finishes and in our kitchen finishes.

In the bathroom, I used black for the faucet in the shower and sink and gold for the light fixture and mirror. I pull in more black with the towel holder and penny tile.

In the kitchen, I used gold hardware for the cabinets, a gold light fixture and fan and then used black for the shelving brackets. To bring in more black, I use black decor accents such as plates/bowls, the grout on the backsplash is charcoal, and the rug.

How do you feel about this trend? Are you a fan of mixing metals or are you team all one metal? I’m curious on your thoughts so share in the comments below.
