How to Paint a Mirror

How to Paint a Mirror

I recently gave an old mirror a makeover with some paint. It looks brand new and fits perfectly in with my style.

To paint a mirror, you will need the following materials:

  • Mirror

  • Painter's tape

  • Drop cloth

  • Glass cleaner

  • Paintbrush

  • Paint (I used Rose Pottery by Behr)

  • Sealant (optional)

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to paint a mirror:

1. Prepare the area: Lay down a drop cloth or newspapers to protect the surrounding area.
2. Clean the mirror: Use a glass cleaner to thoroughly clean the mirror surface. Use a regular cleaner to clean the area around the mirror. Allow to completely dry
3. Protect the mirror: Use painter's tape to carefully mask off the mirror that you do not want to paint. I did not do this, but you certainly can. Paint does peel off the mirror very easily, if you were to get any unwanted paint on it
4. Paint the mirror: Apply your chosen paint or spray paint in thin, even coats. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next to prevent drips or streaks.
5. Repeat as needed: Depending on the desired opacity of the paint, you may need to apply multiple coats. Be patient and allow each coat to dry completely before adding another layer.
6. Seal the paint (optional): To protect the painted surface from scratches or chips, consider applying a sealant.
7. Remove painter’s tape: Once the paint is dry and you have applied any necessary sealant, carefully remove the painter's tape from the mirror, if you put tape on
8. Final touches: Inspect the painted mirror for any touch-ups needed
9. Style it: Style the mirror, hang the mirror, or place the mirror in it’s final place!

Chalk paint works great on small pieces like this. I used regular wall paint because it’s what I had on hand! See the full IG reel, HERE.
