Turkey bolognese

There is truly nothing like a homemade sauce. It’s so delicious, full of flavor, and the smell of it cooking is simply divine.

We love making a big batch and freezing extras so we can easily pull it out when we want homemade sauce. We really don’t eat too much pasta, but if we do, we must make homemade sauce with it!

We do a lot of spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles when we made sauce and it’s just as yummy! We don’t miss the pasta at all.

Our turkey bolognese recipe is rich, yet light. It’s full of veggies and tomatoes and ground turkey. It comes together super fast, but tastes like you’ve been at the stove cooking all day!

Chopped veggies

TURKEY BOLOGNESE

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 yellow onion, diced

  • 4 carrots, peeled and sliced

  • 4 celery hearts, sliced

  • 1 lb ground turkey

  • 2 tbsp minced garlic

  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes

  • 8 oz can tomato sauce

  • 6 oz can tomato paste

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp onion powder

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder

  • 1 tbsp italian seasoning

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp pepper

  • dash of red chili flakes (more or less depending on your preference)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Dice onions into small pieces, peel and slice carrots into half circles, slice celery into small pieces

  2. In a large stockpot or dutch oven, heat oil on medium heat

  3. Add the garlic and stir until fragrant, about 1 minute or so then add the onion, carrots, and celery

  4. Cook the veggies until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes or so

  5. Add the ground turkey and break up big pieces, cook until all browned

  6. Add the crushed tomatoes, the tomato sauce, and the tomato paste and stir the sauce together

  7. Add in all the seasonings and stir to combine

  8. Simmer for at least 30-45 minutes so that all the flavors fully combine. We like to simmer ours for a couple hours, but it’s not necessary. We just love how the house smells when sauce is simmering away!

  9. Serve with your favorite pasta, zoodles, or spaghetti squash and enjoy!

It’s really very simple, but the fresh ingredients make it so tasty. We love this sauce so much! We put ours over chickpea pasta which was very delish!

You can freeze any extras in an airtight container. You could easily double this recipe too, if you wanted to make a really big batch!

I hope you give this one a try, it’s SO good!
