SCREEN Hate: A Good Resource for Parents

SCREEN Hate: A Good Resource for Parents

Thank you to McCain Institute for sponsoring this post. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

As a Mom of 3 little ones, I am always looking at resources to help us parent our children and we recently came across SCREEN Hate which has some helpful information.

SCREEN Hate is a great online resource for parents to help navigate the online world that our kids will undoubtedly be using in order to help prepare, talk, and prevent children from online hate.

SCREEN HATE RESOURCE

Online hate has been a growing issue and its impact cannot be ignored. The anonymity provided by the internet has given people a sense of freedom to say whatever they want without any consequences. Online hate not only affects individuals but also has a negative impact on society as a whole, especially our children. As parents, we must protect our children from this while, learning how to help them navigate the online world and to seek out help when needed.

As you are aware, kids are using all sorts of apps, gaming platforms, messaging forums, and social media and it’s important for us as parents to know all about these online spaces as well.

My kids are still young and so they are not at the point of using all of these online spaces, but they are well acquainted with using technology. The SCREEN Hate resource has been so helpful in preparing myself and John Paul for what’s to come with the online world and children.

SCREEN Hate makes it easy to understand, digest, and figure out a plan with online activities and kids. It gives you information all about the apps, websites, and gaming platforms your children may be using so that you are familiar.

It then gives you detailed information on how to talk with your kids about what they are doing online. Conversation starters and what to do and not to do.

It then goes in helping to prevent your children from online hate and what actionable steps you can take. There are outside resources that you can refer to as well.

Lastly, it gives ways to seek help, if needed. It truly is a full circle resource from start to finish where you have everything handy in one spot.

I consider myself a young Mom, I’m 33 with a 5 year old, 3 year old, and almost 1 year old and grew up when social media really began. I still learned so much on the SCREEN Hate website about how to prepare, prevent, and talk to our kids about being safe online. I may not be in the thick of it with young teens, but I know how fast time goes and it’s better to be proactive so that we are ready when our kids become more active online.

I think you will find a lot of invaluable information on SCREEN Hate. I highly recommend browsing through and seeing all the helpful resources on the website. I know I will be referring to this in years to come. They also update the website as they learn more about the new and upcoming online platforms.

Just like I read all about the early days of motherhood and pregnancy to prepare myself, I am now reading more about what to expect with childhood, young teens, and beyond. I’m feeling more confident in my parenting abilities as my kids start to get older and use social media, apps, and more. I know it’s inevitable that they will be using these online platforms so I would like to be prepared to help them as needed.
