Fall Front Porch with Hydrangeas and Mums

I went a bit differently this year for our front porch for Fall and used hydrangeas and mums!

See our porch from last year HERE.

Since moving into our new house, I have been trying out new ways to decorate and this year for Fall, I used hydrangeas and mums for our front porch and the result is so pretty!

I’m so excited for my first blog hop in our new home, the Brilliant Colors of Fall Home Tours! Today, I am joining 30+ ladies who have been sharing all week long tons of Fall ideas and inspirations! They are all tagged at the end of my post. If you are hopping over from, Open Doors, Open Hearts, Welcome! Isn’t her tour lovely?!

Our new yard has tons of hydrangea bushes and since we moved in at the end of the hydrangea season, I wanted to be sure to clip some and use them in my decor as much as I could! They kind of inspired this whole front porch look and I love how it turned out!

Our new home is very different from our last home so I wanted to go with different vibes in this house. This goes for decorating as well as furnishing.

Usually, I’m a pumpkin girl and will stack a bunch of pumpkins up like the best of them, BUT I wanted to try something different so I decided to do mums and hydrangeas instead. It still feels very Fall and cozy to me.

MUMS

Dominic and I went to the nursery a couple weeks ago and picked up some mums together. Usually, I prefer white or the pink varieties, however, Dominic loves the colors yellow and orange so when he saw the yellow and rusty orange mums, those are the ones he wanted me to buy! I had to oblige because he was so excited about picking them out and was so proud of himself for helping Mama pick out mums!

I also wanted to add in some kale because I love the sage green color along with the texture. I think it’s so pretty for Fall and I love it mixed in with mums.

HYDRANGEAS

Like I said, we have lots of hydrangea bushes at our house and since moving in in August, I knew the life of the hydrangeas was coming to an end, but I wanted to enjoy them for a while longer so I decided to dry a bunch! I even brought some inside to decorate with.

I clipped a bunch of limelight hydrangeas as I love the color they dry to, especially for Fall. To dry them, I just clipped them and put them into the black milk jug and basket on the door without any water. They have dried very well with this method. Some of the petals have fallen off, but I’m going to spray them with some hairspray soon to keep them in tact.

PLANTER TIP

I do like to put my mums/kale into planters, but don’t want them to get ruined from watering them. Of course I know they will get wet from rain, but the inside will get very saturated from watering so I have found this tip to be super helpful!

Before putting the mums or kale into the planters, I will put a small garbage bag into the basket or pot then place the plants into the planter. I don’t take the plants out of their growing pots. This way, it catches extra water and protects the planters from having too much water inside.

The porch wouldn’t be complete without a fun doormat. This one is so cute and fun! I love it layered to make it appear bigger and more size appropriate with the doorframe.

I had SO much fun putting this porch together. It feels warm and inviting and exactly how I want any guests to feel when coming to our house. I’m sure I will add some pumpkins, but I’m loving this look of hydrangeas and mums together!
