Small Bathroom Makeover Reveal: Black and White

Small Bathroom Makeover Reveal: Black and White

Thank you to Gerber Plumbing for providing the faucets. Thank you to Lights.com for providing the light fixture. All opinions and thoughts are my own!

This small bathroom makeover reveal has been a long time coming and I am so excited to be sharing it with you today!

See my plans for the bathroom here to compare the mood board to the real thing.

I wanted our small bathroom makeover to feel modern and mid century with the black and white, but also cozy with some wood tones and gold touches.

Our bathroom makeover is finally done, with the exception of some decor/shelving, but that will come with time and I could not be more excited to share this space with you today!

I have never had a renovated or updated bathroom and I am so grateful for being able to make this bathroom into our dream space! It feels surreal to walk in our bathroom knowing it is ours.

Shower and window

This bathroom is tiny! Like we only needed 30 sq ft of flooring, small. It was kind of a makeshift bathroom which we soon found out with this renovation before our contractor went in there and updated it for us!

BATHROOM BEFORE THE MAKEOVER

Before I dive into the makeover, we have to talk about why we decided to do this bathroom update. This bathroom was super outdated and really needed a facelift. We had a toilet and really wanted to replace our toilet because it was old, dingy, and we could never get it cleaned. We decided to see about replacing the flooring because the way our old toilet was installed, we had to replace the flooring or else you would see the subfloor.

In getting some quotes for the flooring, the contractor we went with gave us a discount to do the shower at the same time. We had asked about a quote for the flooring and the shower separately to see what we were looking at cost wise. It ended up being a huge money saver to do it all at once and we could use his savings towards buying the things we would need for the renovation.

I’m so glad we decided to go this route because after taking out the flooring, we found tons of old water damage from years and years ago that ruined our walls so we had to have some new dry wall put up. The shower would have looked so out of place, had we not updated it.

This little bathroom caused us a few headaches, but what renovation doesn’t?! There are always unexpected things that come up and luckily we were able to get them resolved, but still stressful at the time.

Vanity

BLACK AND WHITE BATHROOM MAKEOVER

I wanted the bathroom to feel like an oasis. I wanted it to be clean and bright since it’s so small. I really wanted to give the illusion it was bigger than it was.

I was able to do this by using a lot of bright white tile. I usually gravitate towards warmer tones, but I wanted bright white tiles throughout and then cozy it up with warmer toned walls.

BATHROOM TILE CHOICES

For the flooring, we chose this beautiful penny tile with a flower pattern. It is such a fun pop of pattern and texture. I love it so much!!

For the shower, we went with 4”x12” subway tile. Our shower isn’t very big so I didn’t want the smaller subway tiles to look too busy in such a small space. I love the look of the oversized subway tiles. We also had our contractor build a little shelf and inside the niche, we used the flooring tile to tie it all together.

We used charcoal grout throughout. I love the look of the black against the white. It feels so clean and really shows off the tiles, I think.

VANITY + PAINT

To warm up the bathroom, I wanted a wooden vanity. It was super hard to find one that would fit in this space. We have this little wall that juts out and is kind of the perfect spot for a vanity to fit, however, it’s an odd size making a vanity tough to find. This one is slightly larger, but it still works and we have plenty of room for the toilet next to it.

I painted the bathroom Sweet Coconut Milk by Behr. I have this throughout our home and love how warm it is. It is so creamy and kind of swallows you up making you want to cozy up.

BATHROOM FIXTURES

I’m a fan of mixing fixture colors. I think it adds interest and makes the space unique. I could not decide between gold and black so I went with both!

Our shower head and faucet is called Lemora from Gerber Plumbing in satin black. It provides such a nice shower experience. I love how the water comes out of the shower head. I think that’s so important to have a nice flow of water and this almost massages you and feels like rain. I love it!

For the sink, we went with the Opulence from Gerber Plumbing in satin black. I love the modern, yet vintage feel of it. The curved handles and faucet are such a fun contrast to the linear vanity. It’s simple, yet has some flair.

Lighting

LIGHTING

This light is so gorgeous from Lights.com. This is the Carlisle with brushed brass and opal glass I am so happy I went with the gold tone. It is so warm and the perfect touch for the bathroom. I love the 3 lights as it gives off so much light. The shades are perfect for hiding the light bulbs too! It is such a pretty light!

MIRROR

Lastly, the mirror! This was such a tough thing to find for the sizing we needed. I browsed for a while before deciding on this one. We needed something kind of narrow, but also long enough to cover up the space on the wall. I also couldn’t use a round mirror. I really wanted an oval or a rectangular mirror with curved edges and this one fit the bill! I love that it’s gold to tie in with the light fixture.

I still want to find a little shelf for either above the toilet or on the wall next to the toilet. I have to get a few more plants in here so the shelves will help!

I hope this gives you some ideas if you are going to be updating any bathrooms soon! I hope you love this makeover as much as we do!
