I can’t believe I’m 30 years old today! It feels like such a milestone, ha!

I think the best years are ahead of me and I’m excited to see what this new decade holds. This is a list of 30 things I have learned over the years—some are silly!

30 YEARS OF LESSONS

In no particular order:

  1. Mom was right

  2. Don’t apologize for being you—be true to yourself

  3. Being kind gets you further in life—be the bigger person, if you have to

  4. Sunshine is good for the soul—nothing like fresh air

  5. Drink water and then drink more water—never enough water

  6. Take care of your skin from early on—always wear sunscreen

  7. Set small goals to lead to your bigger goal

  8. It’s ok to fail, as long as you get back up and try again

  9. Success is how you measure it, not how others measure it

  10. Don’t compare yourself to others—everyone’s journey is different

  11. Wear white after Labor Day

  12. Buy flowers for yourself—they brighten the day

  13. Eat the ice cream, the extra piece of cake, or the last of the fries

  14. Do something small for yourself each day—taking care of yourself is so important

  15. Put up your Christmas decor whenever you want

  16. Ignore the internal ‘clock’—everything will happen at the right time

  17. Take care of a houseplant

  18. Learn to cook at least 1 really yummy meal

  19. Take deep breaths during tough situations—breathing helps to calm you down

  20. Believe in yourself

  21. Listen to your gut—it’s most likely right

  22. Patience is truly a virtue

  23. Travel when you have the opportunity—there is nothing like seeing different parts of the world/country

  24. Smile at strangers—you never know who may need to see a happy face that day

  25. It’s ok to not be perfect—remember, no one is perfect

  26. Ask your grandparents about their childhoods—they most likely have unique stories to share

  27. Be your own advocate—no one else will do it for you

  28. Put your phone on do not disturb, when needed—especially while you sleep

  29. Try something new each month—you can find an adventure in anything

  30. See the glass half full—a positive mindset sets the tone for the day

BONUS LESSONS:

  • Being the oldest child has its perks

  • Thunderstorms aren’t so scary after all

Of course, I have learned a lot more things, but I thought these were important/fun to share with you!
